The Heights Community School Mission Statement: We will create a strong community with focused instruction and critical partnerships that effectively meet the academic and social needs of all students.

The Heights Community School is a neighborhood school located on the East Side.  At the heart of our effort, we are combining the best of our neighborhood schools and a rigorous academic program that meets the individual needs of each student. Our instructional focus is centered on Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop, and Everyday Math. Teaching specialists in Gifted and Talented, Science, Physical Education, Technology, and Vocal Music round out a program designed to maximize development of each student’s talents. A full time Librarian oversees a large collection of books.

Special Highlights:

  • An active Student Council sponsors a variety of service projects and fun events.

  • A variety of enrichment opportunities are in development and currently include Hmong Dance, Recorder Ensemble, Music Ensemble, and DestiNation Imagination.

  • Family Nights focus on reading and math.

  • PTA sponsors opportunities for students and families that enrich our student’s academic needs. PTA provides the support needed through a variety of fund-raisers, many of which are also social get-togethers for students and their families.

Sweet Free Zone

This School is a Sweet-Free Zone
Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) students are finding new ways to celebrate thanks to a campaign that is part of the District's wellness policy to build healthy school environments. The Sweet Free Zone campaign encourages celebrating with alternatives to unhealthy food such as outdoor play time and creative projects. So far, nearly half of schools are participating and the remaining schools are expected to participate by the end of the school year. This also includes birthdays. If you are bringing a birthday treat for your child's class- make it a healthy snack or a non-food treat. Pencils, stickers, or bookmarks make a great alternative.
